China defends visa restrictions for stranded Indians, says it is 'appropriate' to fight CovidHua said the travel restrictions also apply to Chinese nationals returning from overseas.

Beijing: Defended on Monday the visa restrictions for Indians China (China) said that the corona virus (Covid-19) is 'appropriate' to prevent the spread of infection and it does not apply to India alone but also from abroad This also applies to returning Chinese citizens.

When asked about India's ambassador to Beijing Vikram Misri criticizing the continuation of strict travel restrictions, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying ruled out easing the restrictions in the near future as well.

In the Track-2 talks on Sino-India relations last week, Misri expressed "disappointment" over China's unwillingness to allow the return of thousands of Indian students, staff and their families stranded in India due to COVID-19. He called the sanctions imposed by China an "unscientific method" on a purely humanitarian issue.

Asking questions in this regard, Hua told reporters that these steps have been taken for the safety and welfare of the people.

He said, "The steps taken by China are justified and I would like to say that China imposes restrictions on all returning travelers. China is ready to make appropriate arrangements for the bilateral travel of people." Hua said that the travel restrictions also apply to Chinese nationals returning from abroad.
